The origin of the obscene crockery from Caldas da Rainha is still unknown until today. There are several myths, one of which describes that King Carlos wanted to offer something original to some Spanish guests and had the idea of ordering a piece in the shape of a “phallus” (Penis)  from a Chaldean artisan. This king was known as being cheeky and playful.

Nowadays, the phallus of Caldas is known worldwide and is no longer a hidden and ashamed tradition.
