Nisa
It is in Nisa, near the border of Spain, that a more consistent clay mixture is used. It is a mix of a softer, white clay with a black clay creating a homogeneous paste that is then modeled on the wheel. After drying the piece is painted with red clay and polished with a wet hand! The design is drawn on the piece with a sewing needle. In these scratches and incisions are placed small fragments of quartz which was previously cooked in the oven and then broken. Once decorated the pottery goes to the oven to bake.
